Respite Care Provider
Respite Care Provider
Summary:
The Respite Provider provides a break to caregivers (parents, grandparents, foster parents) of children with challenging behaviors. Families receive up to 10 hours per month of respite care for each child. Workers may have more than one child. Two positions will cover East County and the other position will cover Oxnard/Ventura area.
Essential Functions:
• Provide in-home or community based activities to child or youth in East Ventura
County (Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and/or Moorpark) and also
Oxnard/Ventura
• Be a positive role model at all times
• Responsible in maintaining timesheets and mileage forms for each respite care visit
• Responsible for maintaining correspondence with the Respite Care Program Manager
and child’s parents/guardians in a courteous and timely manner
Minimum Requirements:

• Bodily Injury Liability to 50,000 per person & 100,000 per accident
• Professional, reliable
• Compassionate
• Must love children and be patient
• Able to attend trainings as required
• Able to work weekends
• Additional requirements: Reliable transportation, Pass Live scan/Background Check,
TB Test and possess valid California Driver’s License
Desired Qualifications:
• Interest or education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or Special Education
• Education or experience working with special needs children and their families
• Knowledge and comfort working with children with mental health, emotional and
behavioral disorders
• Bilingual a plus

Compensation: $19.00 per hour

Community Educational Advocate
Position Summary:
The Educational Advocate empowers parents, caregivers, and education rights holders by helping them navigate California’s special education system. This role focuses on supporting youth ages 5–22, with an emphasis on those who are Medi-Cal eligible. The advocate works to foster collaborative, non-adversarial relationships between families and schools to ensure students receive the educational services they need, including IEPs, 504 Plans, and behavioral supports. This position is based out of both the Oxnard and Fillmore Parent Drop-In Centers and requires regular in-person presence, along with reliable transportation throughout Ventura County.
Employment Details:
This role is funded through a contract with Ventura County Behavioral Health and is currently offered as a one-year position, with the potential for a two-year extension contingent upon funding and performance. Educational Advocates may also be considered for other long-term opportunities within United Parents as they become available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist families with special education documentation, identifying strengths and needs.
• Maintain and manage a caseload of approximately 20–25 clients.
• Participate in IEP meetings, disciplinary processes, and school-related events.
• Provide monthly and quarterly reports on caseload progress and outreach.
• Conduct outreach and presentations about Educational Advocacy services as needed.
• Host monthly support groups for education rights holders.
• Build strong working relationships with school staff, United Parents team members, and drop-in center staff.
• Refer families to community resources and services, as appropriate.
• Uphold confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, state laws, and agency policy.
• Attend staff development training and other agency meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written) is required.
• Lived or professional experience with IEPs and/or the special education system.
• Strong advocacy and collaboration skills.
• Excellent time management, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Comfortable using Microsoft 365, Outlook, Zoom, and Adobe
• Commitment to serving diverse families, including those from underserved communities.
• Flexible schedule—must be available for some evenings and alternating Saturdays.
Additional Requirements:
• Must reside in Ventura County.
• Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• Clear background check (Live Scan), negative TB test, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
• CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to become certified).
• Clean DMV record and willingness to travel throughout Ventura County, including regular travel to both Oxnard and Fillmore.
Work Schedule:
40 hours/week. Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:30 AM–7:00 PM, with every other Saturday required (schedule may flex based on client need). The Educational Advocate will split their time between the Oxnard and Fillmore Drop-In Centers as needed.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
• May require standing, sitting, walking, driving, or lifting up to 25 lbs.
• Work is performed in an office, school, or community setting, including Oxnard and Fillmore Drop-In Centers, with occasional in-home visits.
• Use of standard office equipment, including computer, phone, copier.
• Laptop and cellphone provided.
Compensation and Benefits:
Hourly Rate: $26.00
