WHO WE ARE

United Parents is a parent run, nonprofit, professional organization providing services to families with special needs children. Children with emotional, mental and/or behavioral disorder sometime require specific educational services in order to receive a “free and appropriate education (FAPE)”.

EDUCATION LAW

School Districts must follow the law and take certain steps to assist students. Testing assessments, and recom- mendations are sometimes confusing for parents and caregivers. Frequently, there is not enough time at scheduled meetings for detailed explanations and recommendations. Educational Advocates are trained in educational law and mediation.

OUR ADVOCATES

Our Educational Advocates take the time to review and explain procedures, results. We are not attorneys, but participate in on-going trainings and conferences to stay current with legislation and changes in procedures. Most importantly, we have worked with school districts on behalf of our own children as well as other students. We are familiar with eligibilities, services available, Positive Behavior Supports, and are available to attendnIEPs or other scheduled meetings.

HOW WE WORK

Educational Advocates work collaboratively with school and agency staff. Disagreements are handled in a way that is respectful to everyone with our goal being collaborative negotiation.
SECURING YOUR CHILD’S FUTURE

Best of all, you will learn to advocate yourself so you can insure your child of ongoing academic success.

Our Advocates can assiist you to:

• Have clear, measurable outcomes.

• Determine short term, long term AND
transitional goals.

• Follow up to insure the plan is working.

• Be an effective advocate for your child.

• Be aware of changes in education laws affecting children with disabilities.
